Mapping Properties
After you map the virtual volume to an application server, you can view its properties and change some of the properties (including the mapping path) by opening the Mapping Properties dialog box. This dialog box can be accessed from 1) the SAN Mappings tab or 2) directly from Virtual Volume Properties in the Virtual Volumes tab.
Mirror paths settings and mappings cannot be changed if mirrors already exist for the virtual volume.
To access the Mapping Properties dialog box from the SAN Mappings tab:
-
In the top pane of the SAN Mapping tab, select a mapped virtual volume and choose Properties from the context menu to open the Virtual Volume Properties dialog box.
-
In the Mappings area, select a Mapping.
-
Click Mapping Properties to access the dialog box.
-
You may change any of the following activated areas for the selected mapping: LUN, Access Rights, Offline check box, Initiator Channel, Target Channel, and Fibre Network Paths. (Initiator and target channels can be changed individually or by selecting the Fibre Network Paths field.)
-
Click Apply after each change, and then click OK.
The table below explains the information in the Mapping Properties dialog box:
Field or Action |
Description |
Mapping Type |
Type of mapping whose properties you are viewing. Types include Mirror, Primary, or Secondary. |
SDS |
Storage server that controls this mapping. |
Presented Virtual Volume |
The name of the virtual volume that has been mapped. |
Volume |
Volume label which can be changed on Virtual Volume Properties dialog box. |
LUN |
This is the logical unit number (LUN) of the virtual volume. The LUN is assigned as soon as a mapping is created. If –1 is grayed out, it will be assigned after an Apply. The only case where a LUN is listed as unassigned is if the system cannot find a channel to create a path between the two machines involved. If multiple mappings of a virtual volume cannot be assigned the same LUN due to previous LUN assignments, LUNs can be manually changed in this box. Refer to LUN Numbering Consistency for more information. |
Access Rights |
You may change the default access rights of the volume. Select Read-Only or Read-Write. If access rights are changed on the primary mapping, the secondary mapping will automatically have the same access rights. Note: Some application servers cannot use a Read-Only volume, i.e., Windows NT. |
Offline |
Check this box to stop presenting volumes to the application server. |
Initiator Channel |
WWN (or identifier) for the port is displayed. Select from available channels in list to change them. This is an endpoint for a fibre network path. |
Target Channel |
WWN (or identifier) for the port is displayed. Select from available channels in list to change them. This is an endpoint for a fibre network path. |
Fibre Network Paths |
The selected initiator to target channel is displayed and can represent I/O paths between application server and storage server or mirror mappings between storage servers. This is another way of selecting the initiators and targets. When you select a different Fibre Network Path, the two channel selection boxes change to match (after Apply or OK). |
Apply |
Applies the configuration changes and keeps the window open. If you get a warning message when you apply, refer to Apply Warning Message. |
OK |
Applies the changes and closes the window. |
Cancel |
Discards any changes. |
To view the status of the mapping path, refer to SANcentral Status tab.
