Cautionary Notes
Applying changes to the storage server without coordinating the changes on the application servers may cause a number of errors, the symptoms of which include (but are not limited to) the following:
-
Lost data/buffer messages on the application servers
-
Lost or timed-out I/O operation messages on the application servers
-
Files could be saved on invalid disk and subsequently lost (with no error message)
-
Files could corrupt other files on new disks (with no error messages)
Another issue to consider before applying changes on a storage server is whether the application server has subsequently network-shared the volume with other application servers. Changes to the volume will ripple throughout any shares. Usually the application server using the shared volumes does not get any direct error indication. You will see errors on the application server sharing the volume.
