Modifying the Configuration

Changes to the region configuration can only be made in SANmanager from a single storage server at a time.  SANmanager will open the configuration in READ-ONLY mode and as changes are made will lock the region so no other storage server can change it.  (The storage server whose SANmanager has the configuration lock is indicated in the SANcentral interface by the padlock icon over the storage server.) Once an Apply is performed implementing the changes, the lock is released so that other storage servers may change the configuration.  SANmanager, if open on other storage servers, will automatically Refresh when the Apply completes so as to obtain the most current configuration.

Generally, you should not have to restart the storage server or stop SANsymphony virtualization, as this would cause all application servers to lose access to their disks. However, some types of changes or deletions may require that you restart one or more of your application servers.

When making changes to mapped volumes you must consider the implications to active application servers using these volumes. Once changes are applied, they can affect the operation of application servers. Sometimes these effects are not noticeable immediately.
