Replacing a Storage Server

If the failure of a major component on your storage server warrants replacement of the server, follow these guidelines:

  • Strive to replicate the storage hardware configuration (fibre channel HBAs, SCSI HBAs, disk drive, etc.) from the failed server to the replacement system.

  • Move all fibre channel HBAs, SCSI adapters, and hard drives to the replacement system.

  • Install the operating system on the replacement server.

  • Install all DataCore software using the same license,  WWN, region, and machine name that was used on the failed server.

  • Foreign pools may need to be imported.

  • HBA and other custom settings will need to be re-set.

  • Modify the Domain Communication Service so the storage server can communicate with other servers.

  • Add the storage server back to the region.
