Replacing an Application Server Adapter
To replace an application server adapter because of a failure, do the following:
-
Note the WWN of the channel you are replacing, if possible. If the HBA has failed, you may be able to determine the WWN of the failed channel through a process of elimination. Try these steps on a storage server:
-
Use the Port Database tool in to list the application server channels that can be seen by the storage server. Take note of the Channel and Port Names.
-
Now, using SANmanager, in the Channels tab, open the App Servers folder in the left pane and select the application server. In the right pane, select each channel and view the properties. The failed channel can be identified by its WWN being absent in Port Database. Copy down that WWN.
-
If necessary, stop and then shut down the application server and replace the failing hardware.
-
Discover the new channel in SANmanager.
-
Replace the failed application server HBA with the new channel using the procedures in Replacing Channels.
-
Apply the configuration.
-
Run the disk administration tool on the application server to discover storage server-presented volumes.
Notes:
-
After the Replace option, the alias of the channel remains the same and the virtual volume mappings are updated. The alias is assigned to the new channel, and the original channel is deleted. If the storage server is refreshed or restarted before the original card is removed, the original card will be rediscovered and given a new default name.
-
Mulit-port cards have at least two fibre channel ports. You must treat the replacement of such cards as if you were replacing distinct HBAs (2 or more). In other words, there will be two (or more) WWNs to discover and SANmanager will display two (or more) server channels for this HBA.
