Pool Settings
Viewing Pool Properties
This dialog box displays the properties assigned to the pool and the current NMV and SAU information. Use this dialog box to change the pool name and set the Alert Capacity Threshold for dynamic pools only.
To view the properties:
-
In the Managed Volumes tab, select the pool in either left or right pane, and choose Properties from the context menu.
-
In the Pool Settings dialog box, make the desired changes to the pool name or alert capacity threshold and click OK.
-
Apply the configuration changes.
The Pool Settings dialog box contains the following information:
Item |
Explanation |
Name |
Pool name. |
Pool ID |
Identification number of the pool. |
SDS |
Name of the storage server hosting the pool. |
Number of Managed Volumes |
Number of NMVs created from the pool. |
Storage Allocation Unit (SAU) Properties | |
Total Size |
Total size of the pool, displayed in GB. |
Size Available |
Amount of storage unallocated in the pool, displayed in GB. |
Storage Unit Size |
Size of the SAU, displayed in MB. |
Number of Raw Disks |
Number of raw disks comprising the pool. |
Subscribed Size |
The amount of storage which the volumes from a pool could at most demand from the pool. For dynamic pools, this is the total size of the virtual volume logical sizes created from the selected pool. For static pools, in which storage is preallocated, this is the total size of all volumes created from the pool. |
| |
Alert Capacity Threshold (for dynamic pools) |
The point, represented as a percentage of storage used in dynamic pools, at which a low disk space alert will be issued in the Event log, on a per-pool basis. You can modify this setting in the Properties dialog box, accessed by right-clicking a dynamic pool in the SANmanager Managed Volumes tab. You will not be able to add NMVs if the pool usage is greater than this threshold. Refer to Setting Alert Threshold. |
Pool Types | |
Dynamic |
NMV pool which provides storage on demand. |
Static Striped Storage |
This option requires you to enter a fixed size for NMVs in the pool. Physical storage is preallocated. You must have adequate physical storage to support the size you enter. This option is best for virtual volumes whose size can be predicted and whose size is unlikely to grow over time. |
Static Spanned Storage |
This option requires you to enter a fixed size for the NMVs created in this pool. Physical storage is allocated at creation. You must have adequate physical storage to support the size you enter. Spanning causes the NMV to allocate the storage in chunks across as few pool disks as possible. You need not assign multiple disks to the pool before volume creation; you may “add as you go”. |
Refer to Pool Types for additional information.
