Purging Offline NMVs

For protection purposes, disks cannot be removed if SAUs are allocated from that disk. Purging an offline NMV removes the SAUs that are allocated on the disks, so that disks may be removed.

When a disk in a pool fails, one of the following conditions indicate that you should purge the offline NMVs before selecting Remove Disk from Pool:

  • On the SANmanager Virtual Volume tab, red Xs may appear next to failed volumes.

  • On the SANmanager Managed Volumes tab, the State column may show “Missing” indicating that the volume has failed.

  • On the SANcentral Pools Performance tool, a question mark (?) may appear next to a volume instead of its number.

To purge all offline NMVs in a pool:

  1. In the Managed Volumes tab, in the left pane, expand the appropriate storage server pool folder.

  2. Select the pool and choose Purge offline NMV from the context menu.

  3. Apply the configuration change.
