Deleting Storage Servers from the Region

When deleting storage servers from the region, it is important to consider the implications of removing it; storage resources from the deleted server will no longer be available. In order to delete a storage server, all virtual volumes must be unmapped and we highly  recommend dismantling snapshot relationships and AIM sets before taking storage servers out of regions.

Follow the steps below for the best practices when deleting storage servers:

  1. Stop all application server I/O to the storage server you are deleting.

  2. Open SANmanager on a storage server other than the server that you want to delete.

  3. Delete all mappings from the storage server to be deleted. Follow the procedures in Unmapping a Virtual Volume.

  4. Dismantle any AIM sets or Snapshots in SANmanager. For AIM, refer to Deleting AIM Set Associations and Removing AIM Set Candidates. For Snapshot, refer to Deleting Snapshot Sets.

  5. Delete all unmapped virtual volumes from the storage server to be deleted. Follow the procedure in Deleting a Virtual Volume.

  6. In the Virtual Volumes tab, select the storage server you wish to remove in the upper left pane, and select Delete from the context menu.

  7. Apply the configuration to distribute the change to all storage servers in the region.

  8. Remove the storage server from the region by following one of two procedures:

    1. To remove the storage server remotely from another storage server in the region, refer to Removing a Storage Server from the Region.

    2. To remove the storage server locally, refer to Leaving the Region.
