Manually Adding Channels to Application Servers

For the most part, channels are automatically discovered by the SANsymphony software and can be assigned by dragging and dropping from folders in the Channels tab. In certain cases, they will have to be manually added. This topic details the steps for manually adding channels from the Channels tab or the SAN Mappings tab. (For instructions on assigning automatically discovered channels, refer to Assigning Channels to Application Servers.)

Before you begin, you must have the Fibre Channel WWN or iSCSI node name (device ID) for the application server port you are adding. If necessary, refer to the Finding Application Server Fibre Channel WWNs and iSCSI Names section in the Gathering Application Server Port Information topic.

Follow theses steps to manually add new channels in SANmanager:

  1. Click on either Channels tab or SAN Mappings tab.

  2. In the left pane, expand the App Servers folder and select the application server.  Choose Add New AppServer Channel from the context menu.

  3. In the Add New Channel dialog box, notice that a default channel alias appears in the Channel Name box. (This can be changed, but the alias must be unique within a region. Refer to Changing Channel Aliases.)

  4. In the Channel Type area, click either Fibre Channel or iSCSI.

  5. If you selected Fibre Channel, enter the WWN  for the application server Fibre Channel port in the WWN box in the Fibre Channel Settings area.  Otherwise, if you selected iSCSI, enter the iSCSI node name (device ID) for the application server iSCSI port in the Device box in the iSCSI Settings area.

  6. Click OK to finalize your entries. The new channel will appear in the right pane.

  7. Apply the configuration.
