Allow Mixed Static and Dynamic Disks

The Allow Mixed Static and Dynamic Disks check box allows the mixing of dynamic volumes (dynamic NMVs) and static volumes (partition-based volumes and static NMVs) in a mirror. The check box will remain enabled until cleared.

Enabling the Allow Mixed Static and Dynamic Disks check box is useful under the following conditions:

  • When “upgrading” partition-based volumes to NMVs in a mirror.

  • When replacing pool volumes when the pool is offline. (When a pool is offline, the associated volumes are considered static volumes.)

  • When using a Proxied Volume or a protected Windows file system volume (both considered static volumes) in a mirror with an NMV. See About Proxied Volumes or Protect File System Volume.

This check box can be accessed from:

  • The Preferences>Configuration Preferences menu in the SANmanager menu bar.

  • The Replace Volume dialog box for virtual volumes.

Refer to Replacing a Volume in a Virtual Volume for volume recovery information and instructions.
