Creating Mirrors Using Drag and Drop
There are two methods of creating mirrors: “drag and drop” (instructions below) or through the Add Mirror dialog box (for these instructions, refer to Creating Mirrors for Virtual Volumes). Before creating a mirror, refer to Sizing a Mirror. (Mirroring is not available with dual path storage.)
IMPORTANT: Mirror path configurations, such as using specific mirror paths or redundant mirror paths, must be configured prior to creating a mirror. After a mirror configuration exists for a virtual volume, mirror path settings cannot be changed. Refer to Specifying the Mirror Path to configure prior to creating mirrors.
Follow the steps to create a mirror using drag and drop:
-
In the SANmanager Virtual Volumes tab, create a virtual volume by selecting a volume from a storage server and dragging it to the Virtual Volumes folder in the lower-left pane. (This is the primary volume of the mirror.)
-
Select a second volume from a different storage server to include in the mirror. Drag and drop the second volume on the first virtual volume. The lower-left pane now contains this mirror. You cannot create a mirror from volumes originating from the same storage server. (This is the secondary volume of the mirror.)
-
Apply the configuration.
After creating a mirror, it will go into recovery (this is normal behavior). Do not change the configuration for that virtual volume until the recovery completes.
To set additional mirror attributes, such as path options and recovery priority, refer to Changing Attributes of a Mirror.
