Removing a Volume from a Virtual Volume
When you remove a secondary volume (a mirror) from a virtual volume, the result is one linear virtual volume without path type. Data from the removed volume is not copied or saved, and the removed volume is marked as “previously used” until the configuration is applied.
This procedure can be used on tertiary mirrors. If this operation is performed on the tertiary volume, then the tertiary volume is deleted and that volume is marked as “previously used.” If this operation is performed on the secondary volume in a tertiary mirror, then both the secondary and tertiary volumes are deleted and marked as “previously used.”
In any case, if you remove a primary volume from a virtual volume, the entire virtual volume is deleted and the data is discarded.
Follow these steps to remove a volume from a virtual volume:
-
In the SANmanager Virtual Volumes tab, open the Virtual Volume folder in the lower left pane, and select the virtual volume.
-
In the lower right pane, select the volume to be removed from the list.
-
Choose Remove from Virtual Volume from the context menu.
-
Apply the configuration.
