Splitting a Mirror
You can revert a mirror to a collection of two individual linear virtual volumes. Splitting a mirror eliminates the mirroring capability of those virtual volumes.
If mapped, these virtual volume types need to be unmapped before splitting the mirror:
- Alternate path (AP) virtual volumes must be unmapped and the configuration change must be applied.
- 3rd Party AP/MPIO (3PAP) virtual volumes
-
Cluster Path (CP) virtual volumes
To split a mirror:
-
In the Virtual Volume tab of SANmanager, select the virtual volume to split from the Virtual Volumes folder in the left pane.
-
Select Split from the context menu. (Split Tertiary is only available for tertiary mirrors.)
-
Apply the configuration.
Each virtual volume that comprised the mirror is now a linear virtual volume without path options. The linear virtual volumes are displayed in the Virtual Volume folder. If the original mirrored virtual volume was named VVol_1, the newly created linears will be named VVol1_1, and VVol1_2.
The primary volume, if mapped, remains mapped to the application server. The secondary virtual volume will no longer be mapped.
