Welcome to the Administration Guide for DataCore’s SANsymphony product.

Please review all  topics in this guide for a complete understanding of the software.

Help Toolbar Buttons

Hide: Hides the area where Contents, Index, Search, and Glossary tabs reside.

Show: Shows the area where Contents, Index, Search, and Glossary tabs reside.

Locate: Finds the active topic in the Contents tab.

Back/ Forward: These buttons are used together to go back and forth through previously viewed topics; they are useful to return to previously viewed topics from a hyperlink jump.

Print: Prints the active topic. You can also print chapters from the Contents tab by right-clicking a chapter and selecting Print from the shortcut menu.

Help Tabs
  • Contents to view the Table of Contents.

  • Index to browse an alphabetical index of topics.

  • Search to query topics by keyword. Advanced search capabilities include: Booleans, wild cards, and nested expressions.

  • Glossary to find a definition of a term.

Other Navigation Tools:
  • Hyperlinks appear in blue. Click the hyperlinks to access additional information.

  • Related Topics contain supplementary information.

What is in this HELP? The TOC Chapter Review

The Administration Guide is organized into several major chapters.

  • Licensing provides licensing information and how to upgrade to a new storage server license.

  • Understanding Basics provides an introduction to SANsymphony software, the benefits of DataCore’s Network-Powered Storage™ architecture and some of the concepts and terms used later in the Administration Guide. Optional products are also introduced. This chapter includes System Requirements and provides high level information used to understand the basic concepts and components of the SANsymphony SAN. (Always consult the Glossary for term definitions when needed.)

  • Planning a SAN Configuration provides important information that should be taken into account before installing our software, as well as before beginning configuration.

  • Starting SANsymphony for the First Time provides instructions for starting SANsymphony software, starting the Domain Communication Service on the storage servers, assigning the storage servers to a permanent region, and starting DataCore virtualization.

  • Getting Started provides a “road map” to guide you through an initial configuration and basic set-up of your SAN. However, you should read all topics in the Help for a more complete understanding of the software.

  • Configuration & Control/SANmanager provides you with information about SANmanager, the primary configuration and control interface for SANsymphony software. This chapter takes you through all the configuration and control tools in SANmanager in order to customize and use your SAN. This chapter is further divided into specific areas containing related information and procedures.

  • Monitoring/SANcentral provides you with information about the SANcentral interface, the primary monitoring interface for the SANsymphony product, as well as tools used to monitor the reliability and performance of your SAN.

  • SANsymphony Console Tools, a collection of various tools contained in this snap-in: Disk Path Manager, DataCore Disk Manager, Fibre Channel Manager, iSCSI Manager, and Trace Console.

  • Snapshot provides you with information and configuration information for using this licensed product option.

  • AIM provides you with information and configuration information for using this licensed product option.

  • Proxied Volumes provides you with information and configuration information for using this licensed product option.

  • AP/MPIO provides you with information regarding the configuration and use of AP and MPIO with SANsymphony software. DataCore MPIO and AP are application server products; details can be viewed in the Help installed with those products.

  • Cluster Path provides you with important notes regarding the configuration and use of Cluster Path and SANsymphony software.

  • Dual Path provides you with information regarding the configuration and use of DP with SANsymphony software.

  • Traveller provides you with important note regarding the configuration and use of Traveller software with the SANsymphony product. Details can be viewed in the Help installed with the Traveller product.

  • SANsymphony Icons provides a quick reference to all the icons used in SANsymphony software.
