Getting Started

DataCore™ SANsymphony™ storage virtualization software requires some configuration before it can be used. This topic provides a step-by-step guide through an initial basic SANsymphony software configuration.

The instructions documented in this Help assume that the user has a working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system software installed on their storage servers.

To learn the basics of SAN and SANsymphony  terminology and concepts, as well planning and best practices:

• Review the Understanding Basics chapter, as necessary.

• Review the Planning a SAN Configuration chapter and put your plan in place.

Before you begin configuring your SAN, ensure that you have completed these preliminary steps:

• Refer to Naming Conventions for rules on naming SAN components.

• Make sure that you have completed all pre-install and installation steps from the SANsymphony 7.0 Installation Guide received with the software.  

• • Storage servers and application servers should have all the appropriate software installed.

  • All storage servers should have SANsymphony software running and be members of a region, as outlined in Starting SANsymphony for the First Time.

  • SANcentral interface should be running.

Now Let’s Get Started!

You can only configure from one storage server or Management Console at a time. Any additional instances of SANmanager will be in Read Only mode, and configuration changes cannot be made from them.

After you have completed a basic configuration following the procedures in the table above:
