Naming Conventions
Naming conventions for storage servers, application servers, volumes, virtual volumes, domains, regions, and channels are largely consistent throughout the SANsymphony product. Any object named in a DataCore GUI should be of the approved naming convention.
Warning: Choose the network name of the computer carefully–before installing SANsymphony software. Once your configuration is established, changing this name will disable the SANsymphony product.
Here are the basic naming convention rules:
-
Volumes, virtual volumes, snapshot sets, and channel names can have a maximum of 31 characters. Channel names must be unique within a region.
-
Storage server and application server names are limited to 15 characters.
-
Must start with a letter.
-
Must end with a letter or digit.
-
Middle characters may be letters, digits, hyphens, and underscores (with the exception of computer names).
-
Do not use underscores in the storage server computer name.
-
The name must only contain American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) characters.
-
Names are not case sensitive.
-
Do not re-name a mapped virtual volume.
