Protecting Against Power Loss

DataCore recommends that you protect storage servers with an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), as you would do with any important system in your configuration.  This general information on using UPS software gives you some guidelines, but you should consult your UPS documentation for more information.

SANsymphony software has four commands the UPS should be programmed to call should loss of wall power be detected by your UPS. If your UPS software interface requires an executable program, create batch files containing the appropriate DataCore CLI.

CLI Command/Parameter

Explanation

DcsUpsEvent -iscachewt

Use to display the cache mode (writethru or writeback).

DcsUpsEvent -writethru

Use when utility power is lost (loss of wall power.) This enables the storage server to continue to function safely in a degraded mode with the cache disabled.

DcsUpsEvent -stop

Use when UPS battery is at a low level. This command initiates the process of shutting down the storage server.

DcsUpsEvent -start

Use when utility power is restored (wall power is back online.) This command initiates the process of restarting the storage server.

DcsUpsEvent -writeback

Use when UPS battery is fully recharged. When wall power is restored, this command allows you to put the storage server in normal operation with caching enabled.
