Creating AIM Groups

AIM groups are used to perform commands and functions on multiple AIM sets simultaneously. Groups promote coherency and consistency for inter-dependent volumes and facilitate scripting. Once an AIM group is created, you can add one or more existing AIM virtual volumes to the group, provided that they are from the same server. Commands/functions issued to the specified group affect all AIM sets assigned to that group.

If a Group command is received and any of the group’s destination volumes are offline, the command will not be processed.

Follow these steps in SANmanager to create groups of AIM sets:

  1. In the Domains and Groups tab, expand the AIM groups folder in the left pane.

  2. Select the AIM groups folder and select New AIM group from the context menu. A group will be created with the default name of AIMGroup1. (You can change the name in the Properties dialog box for the group.)

  3. In the left pane, select the AIM volumes folder.

  4. In the right pane, select the virtual volumes to group from the list and drag them into the AIM Group that you created.
