Logging on to Targets Using iSCSI Manager

After you have added targets to the iSCSI initiator port on the storage server, you will have to log on to iSCSI targets in order to access the target storage devices. The following instructions are performed using the iSCSI Manager tool in SANsymphony Console.

To log on to targets:

  1. Open iSCSI Manager.

  2. Select the MS iSCSI Initiator (default) component in the console tree.

  3. In the right pane, select the Device Name of the target to logon and choose Logon from the shortcut menu.

  4. In the Target Logon box, select the Automatically restore this connection when the system boots check box, to make the log on persistent after computer restarts.

  1. To configure the Advanced Settings:

    1. Select the Advanced check box.

    2. In the Connect by using area, if you have a single connection, you may leave the default entries.
To configure multiple connections to the target, in the Local Adapter box, select Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. In the Source IP box, select the appropriate IP address for the source adapter card.

    3. To enable CRC/Checksum for enhanced error detection, select the appropriate check boxes for the location of the CRC bits; either or both check boxes can be selected.

    4. To provide CHAP security and mutual authentication, select the CHAP logon information check box and then enter the User name and Target secret in the boxes provided. (By default, the User name is set to the iSCSI node name.) Select the Perform mutual authentication check box if desired.
CAUTION:  For mutual authentication, you will also need to configure the secret on the target, but assign the secret on the initiator FIRST. See Entering a CHAP Secret in iSCSI Manager.
For additional information regarding CRC/Checksum, CHAP, or Mutual Authentication, refer to iSCSI Security and Error Detection and your Microsoft iSCSI software documentation.

  1. Click OK to finalize your selections.

To log off:

  1. Open iSCSI Manager.

  2. Select the MS iSCSI Initiator (default) component in the console tree.

  3. In the right pane, select the Device Name of the target to logoff and choose Logoff from the shortcut menu.
