Changing the Temporary Region Name

When you install SANsymphony software on a storage server, a temporary region name is assigned which defaults to the name of your computer with the license number appended. The region name is displayed in the Status bar. This temporary region name must be changed immediately after installation to the permanent region name of your choosing.

Storage servers that will be communicating with each other and sharing static and dynamic configuration information have to be members of the same region. This procedure must be performed on every storage server you intend on having in the region.

WARNING:  You are required to change the temporary region name to a permanent region name before you configure or use the SANsymphony software. Changing the region name after configuring SANsymphony software will result in configuration loss.

  1. Take the storage server out of the initial temporary region. From the Actions menu, select Region>Leave the Region. In the graphic below, notice the temporary region name in the Status bar.

  3. From the Actions menu, choose Region>Join a Region.  In the graphic below, notice the message Node not in region and no region name is displayed in the Status bar. In the right pane, the status for the storage server is Not in a region.

CAUTION-SPECIAL CONFIGURATION NOTE for storage servers running WINDOWS 2008 R2 operating system:
Use these alternate instructions, add the second storage server to the region from the first storage server, instead of joining the region from the second storage server. (To do this, use the option Add a node to the Region and add the computer name of the second storage server. Verify on in SANcentral on both servers that they are now in the same region.)
