About Storage Servers

A storage server, sometimes referred to as a Storage Domain Server (SDS), is a standard, commercially available, dual-CPU (or more) Windows server dedicated to running SANsymphony software. The storage server is configured with host bus adapters (HBAs) or network interface cards (NICs) to provide access to and from disk storage and RAM for storage caching. The amount of memory and number and type of HBAs/NICs are determined by performance requirements.

With SANsymphony software, multiple collaborating storage servers control the pools of storage, working to allocate resources, define mirror relationships, execute point-in-time snapshot images, and monitor performance and status. Administrators manage and monitor storage pools from storage servers or management consoles.

For initial cache settings on the storage server and instructions for adjusting the cache, refer to Setting Cache Size.
