About SANmanager, the Configuration GUI

SANmanager is the configuration tool in the SANcentral interface. SANmanager is aware of the Fibre Channel and iSCSI network topology—that is connections among storage server, application servers, and disks. SANmanager uses this information to assign mappings intelligently only over those server channels which actually are connected to the mapped application server channels. SANmanager will show the user valid “network paths” from servers to application servers. SANmanager combines the power of on-the-fly SAN configuration and storage allocation with simple Windows-based interface tools.

Features of the SANmanager tool include:

  • Configuration of Thin Provisioning Network Managed Volumes (NMVs) from pools of storage created and managed by SANsymphony software.

  • Enhanced automatic discovery, including discovery of initiator channels on the SAN.  Facilitates configuration of application servers, fibre channel, and iSCSI disks.

  • Configuration of storage domains that allow logical grouping of these mappings and the ability to apply rules and policies to the entire group, as well as AIM and Snapshot groups.

  • Creation and configuration of virtual volumes that logically represent space on one or multiple physical disks from the NMV pool. Virtual volumes can be mirrored and configured for High Availability, remaining operational even in the event of failures.

  • Facilitates the mapping of virtual volumes or mirrors to application servers where they are seen as physical disks and can be partitioned, assigned drive letters and used as any standard storage would be. Manual override capabilities for advanced configuration allows modification of LUNs, as well as Initiator/Target mapping selections.

  • Configuration of snapshot relationships for backup and archival purposes directly from the SANmanager console.

  • Configuration of AIM virtual volumes used for long distance transfer of data to remote storage servers using Internet protocols ( IP).
